Characteristic: The maximum longitude is of almost 48 kilometers, and the
width of 19'5. The surface, including the adjacent islands, it is of something more than
700 km2.
An imaginary line that goes from the port of Mahón to the North area of Ciutadella
divides the island in two totally different geologic regions. The northern area is of the
primary, secondary and quaternary eras, and it is the one that presents the biggest
mountainous reliefs and the most abrupt costs, with beaches of golden sands.
The southern, more uniform area and of the tertiary era, it presents an almost plane
surface crossed by deep ravines, and gives place to a lineal coast in which the
leafy creeks are plentiful and of white sand.
