Es Grau

The beach of Es Grau is located north of Mahon. Under the protection of a wide bay, its clear waters are always calm and shallow making it very suitable for children. The small fishing village has become a neighborhood of second homes owned mostly from Minorcans, who enjoy a great tranquility, unlike the lively tourist resorts. In the dock there are still some professional fishermen. The Es Grau lagoon, the only National Park in Menorca, is a refuge for many migratory birds. It’s kind of brackish water lagoon connected to the sea through a small opening leading to the beach. Thus, brackish water is maintained, leading to an explosion of life both vegetable and animal. With a little luck, you can see a wide variety of birds, including herons and flamenco, and fish like mullet, eel, sea bass, etc.
